WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is a powerful tool that helps us access your subconscious mind, past the filter of your conscious, analytical mind, where real change can happen to shift old, non-productive thinking patterns, and where new more productive ones can take hold.

It's a very safe, deeply relaxing process, similar to a guided visualization. We'll have a conversation ahead of time where you'll let me know what's not working, what your goals are, and how you envision your life after these positive changes take hold. Then I guide you through a process where these new suggestions can be planted like seeds in your subconscious mind.

It's amazing how effective these new messages can be in causing you to release old patterns and create new habits that will help you create the life you envision.

"Since my visit with you I feel that I've changed in so many ways - I came for some help with some issues I had regarding food and since my hypnosis I have been free - a miracle! Your calm and reassuring way made it easy for me to open up with all my feelings and thoughts, and that was the beginning of the changes for me. Changing a few habits, at your suggestion, helped me to change old habits around food. Thank you so much, Joseph!"

FAQ's

How does it work?

Hypnosis is simply a relaxed, naturally occurring state of mind, and the session is very enjoyable, like a guided meditation. It offers you the opportunity to easily make adjustments to patterns or habits that may have limited your progress in the past.

Have you ever driven your car for a while, engrossed in deep thought, and suddenly gotten to your destination and you don't even know how? That's an example of a common hypnotic experience that we all have every day. The analytical mind eases up for a bit, allowing the unconscious mind to access new and positive ideas.

Hypnosis allows you to contact the subconscious mind directly where we are able to accept change much more readily.

The subconscious mind is the control center for autonomic bodily functions, behaviors and emotions as well as the location where we store all of our memories. The conscious mind monitors access to the subconscious and accesses these memories and patterns in order to take action.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

If you're willing to be hypnotized, then you're probably a good candidate. The depth of hypnosis varies with a person’s ability to respond. Those that regularly meditate are more likely to enter into a deeper state of relaxation, for example.

If you're not a naturally responsive subject you can improve your receptivity to hypnosis with practice. People with brain damage and with a very low IQ cannot be hypnotized. Nor can those who are actively psychotic or who may have other mental health issues.

Is hypnosis medically approved?

Yes! The American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association have approved hypnotherapy for use by professionally responsible individuals. The British Medical Association also adopted hypnosis as a viable therapeutic tool in 1954.

Is hypnosis dangerous?

No. The induction of hypnosis is never dangerous to the subject, and most people find it to be amazingly beneficial and relaxing.

Can a person in hypnosis be controlled?

No. It only appears that way in stage hypnosis where the hypnotist asks for volunteers or picks people out of the crowd that most likely would have been class clowns in high school. Professional hypnosis is quite different. A hypnotherapist is there to help you with your issues and needs your cooperation with the process. If the hypnotherapist were to give you suggestions that you didn’t agree with or that were morally against your beliefs, you would either refuse them or you would stand up and walk out of that session.

Can a person be stuck in hypnosis?

No. When you're in a state of hypnosis, it's very similar to the 'zone' that you enjoy while falling asleep and anything alarming or of importance would wake you from this state. There is absolutely no danger to you in a state of hypnosis.

How can I best prepare for my hypnosis session?

You'll be asked to complete an intake form before your first session. The form includes such questions as: What are you intending to accomplish? How will your life be different once this is accomplished? Completing the intake requires a bit of self-reflection, so please take your time with it.

Also, before the session it will be helpful for you to begin to imagine or feel what your life will be like once your goal has been realized. If you're wanting to break through some money blocks in your life, for example, imagine or feel what your life will be like with more financial freedom and generosity. Practice feeling that feeling as you're falling asleep at night and enjoy the experience of it.
